On Dvořák’s 180th birthday, there will be a concert by the renowned Josef Suk Piano Quartet (Radim Kresta – violin, Eva Krestová – viola, Matěj Štěpánek – cello, Veronika Böhmová – piano), which will present two important works of Dvořák’s chamber music: Trio in F minor for piano, violin and cello, op. 65 (1883) and Piano Quartet in E flat major No. 2 for piano, violin, viola and cello, Op. 87 (1889).

A concert by the leading Czech oboist Vilém Veverka will take place today at 7.30 pm in Lázně Luhačovice. “I believe that our listeners will leave the concert with the impression that they have not yet had a similar experience of live acoustic music,” says Vilém Veverka about his formation. A monothematic evening dedicated to the significant 180th anniversary of Antonín Dvořák’s birth, performed by the festival’s resident artist Jiří Bárta and pianist Terezia Fialová. In addition to the chamber compositions Calm of the Forest and Rondo in G minor, which Dvořák performed on a concert tour with cellist Hanuš Wihan in 1892 before leaving for the United States and which he subsequently instrumented for a small orchestra version, there will also be the famous Concerto for cello in H minor in version for cello and piano. The cello concerto is one of Dvořák’s innermost works, characterized by deep contemplation.

Emperor Naruhito attended a concert in Osaka while he was crown prince. Ladies and gentlemen, supporters of our orchestra, it is exactly 31 years since the third, very successful, PKO trip to Japan, during which the orchestra was visited by Crown Prince Naruhito (since May 1, 2019, His Highness Naruhito has been the Emperor of Japan). At sixteen concerts, the orchestra changed three concert programs and performed in nine Japanese cities. PKO’s tour to Asian destinations has always met with the enthusiasm of the audience. We will take a closer look at some of the other Asian visits in the future.

History of PKO / 1957 / Italy

It is exactly 64 years since the first big tour of the Prague Chamber Orchestra. In April 1957, the musicians went to Italy for a month. The tour included 12 concerts and PKO visited cities such as Milan, Bolzano, Rome, Palermo in Sicily and Sassari in Sardinia and many others. The orchestra has visited Italy a total of 49 times during its 70 years of existence.

History of PKO / 1965 / Carnegie Hall

Today is exactly 56 years since the first performance of the Prague Chamber Orchestra in New York’s famous Carnegie Hall. The concert took place as part of the first tour of the USA. The following day, a review of our orchestra was published in The New York Journal-American. PKO then performed at Carnegie Hall many more times, always with great success.

Jiří Vodička, the concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic, soloist, and chamber musician, is one of the most prominent and most sought-after Czech violinists. PKO is cancelling the concerts until the end of April

In connection to the current epidemiological situation, and the related regulation of the Government of the Czech Republic, the Prague Chamber Orchestra decided to cancel all concerts until the end of April. Due to the ban on the presence of the audience in concert halls, our concerts will be broadcast on the Facebook and YouTube channel of the Prague Chamber Orchestra.

Matyáš Novák started playing the piano at the age of five. In 2019 he graduated from the Pardubice Conservatory in the class of prof. Jitka Fowler Fraňková and was admitted to the Prague Academy of Performing Arts in the class of prof. Ivan Klánský.
